Construction

A GE spherical plain bearing is a sliding bearing with no rolling elements: a spherical inner ring slides in a spherical outer ring, steel-on-steel or ptfe-lined. A universal joint cross has a cross trunnion and four needle-roller cups, transmitting torque between two shafts that are not in line.

Load capacity

Spherical plain bearings take very high loads at low oscillating speed; they are for swinging or tilting motion, not continuous rotation.

Typical applications

Hydraulic cylinders, construction machinery, cranes, steering linkages; joint crosses for truck and farm-machine propeller shafts.
