Construction
The most widely used type. A single row of balls runs in deep raceway grooves machined into both rings. Simple, low-friction, high-speed capable and virtually maintenance-free. Three closure options: open (no suffix), steel shields (ZZ) and contact rubber seals (2RS) pre-filled with grease.
Load capacity
Carries mainly radial load and moderate axial load in both directions. Not self-aligning: shaft and housing bore must be concentric — significant misalignment causes overheating and early failure.
Typical applications
Electric motors, industrial fans, water pumps, gearboxes, light conveyors, agricultural machines, motorcycles, household appliances.
Industries served
Industries that use this category
Automotive
Steering columns, wheel hubs, alternators, gearboxes, motors for wipers, windows and seats, and throttle valves.
Operating conditions
Heavy loads, long service life, heat, vibration and frequent rapid movement.
Sealed-for-life bearings where relubrication is difficult, self-aligning types that tolerate shaft misalignment, and stainless steel against fertiliser and spray chemicals.
Industrial machinery & electric motors
Almost any rotating machine, especially electric motors, as well as machine tools, inverters, pumps, gearboxes and food-processing equipment.
Operating conditions
Continuous duty — replacing a bearing costs far less than replacing the motor.
