Construction

Tapered rollers run between a tapered inner ring (cone) and outer ring (cup); the apexes of all three tapered surfaces meet at one point on the axis, so the rollers roll without sliding. The two rings separate, which lets the cone go on the shaft and the cup into the housing before assembly.

Load capacity

Takes very high radial load together with high axial load, but in one direction only — always mounted as an opposed pair, with clearance or preload set during assembly. Sized by d – D – T (overall assembled width).

Typical applications

Car and trailer wheel hubs, gearboxes, rolling-mill roll necks, agricultural machinery, axles, heavy-duty reducers.
