Construction

Cylindrical rollers make line contact with the raceways, giving far higher radial capacity than a ball bearing of the same size. The NU/NJ/N/NUP letters say which ring has guiding flanges: NU and N let the shaft expand axially, NJ locates in one direction, NUP in both.

Load capacity

Very high radial load and high speed; flangeless designs carry almost no axial load. The rings separate, which allows an interference fit on both shaft and housing.

Typical applications

Gearboxes, large electric motors, rolling mills, reducers, machine tools, rail traction motors.
